This is my attempt at a joke because the idea of a shorter cycle tertiary education is so absurd, it’s almost laughable. But it’s important to realize that tertiary education is anything but short. Unless you’re lucky enough to have a scholarship or a research grant, tertiary education can be a grind of long hours, long days, and long nights.
The idea that tertiary education is “short” is a myth. I’ve worked for a number of years, and I’ve seen tertiary education go from, well, short to long before. One of the best ways to determine this is to look at where students are getting their education. Students who attend universities don’t necessarily attend for the short term.
Some universities are short. At some of them, a student has to make a lot of sacrifices, like going to school full-time for seven years, or working for two jobs, or doing a lot of volunteer work, or traveling. These students are not the ones that get their tertiary education. The people who end up going to these schools are more like the people that get short-term tertiary education.
