(If you’re really lucky you’ll find one in the back of a Salvation Army shop on the other side of the country. Or even the back of a barber shop.
As it turns out, theyre not actually silk at all. Theyre actually a form of silk mesh. The dress was made by a French company called “Taillec” that makes top quality dress mesh. The company itself was formed in the late 1970s and was originally based in Tokyo.
I have always wondered how the silk wedding dress industry works. Is the bride in the shop somewhere, or is it somewhere else in the shop? If the bride is in the shop, why are there so many silk dresses on the shelves? I mean, the only thing to do in a silk wedding dress shop is to stand and stare.

I would imagine that the same is true of the cost of the dresses in the US. That’s because the industry is dominated by a few corporations with vast resources. The same is also true of the cost of a wedding for a single individual.
If you think about it, silk is the most affordable and versatile of all fabrics. The only reason why it isnt more popular is because of its scarcity. You can buy a beautiful silk dress for a fraction of the price of the equivalent dress in cheaper materials that are easier to work with. Silk’s ability to withstand harsh weather makes it a very reliable material for wedding gowns.
