It’s a little disheartening to hear the news that a majority of teachers and administrators will have to find new jobs as the next school year starts. While this is a huge blow to education, I think it is one of the best things to come out of this global economic crisis. Schools need to be rebuilt, teachers need to be re-trained, and students need to be re-educated to think critically about the world around them.
I know I said this was a small list, but it is still pretty large. There are many things that need to be done to make sure our schools are safe and healthy places and I’m sure some parents are going to have their own thoughts on this subject. I’m not going to list all the things that need to be done, but I do want to highlight a couple of the things that need to be addressed immediately.
Learning how to learn is one of the most important things that students need to master as a result. That was important to me, but I will always be able to make the right choices based on what I’ve learned so that I can build up my skills. It’s true that I don’t have a lot of time left, but I can still make the right choices based on what I have learned.
Learning how to learn is important, but this is where education has a huge flaw. We are trained to think that we should learn things right away or we will never be able to learn anything because we will never fully understand what we are learning. Im not trying to be mean here, but I think its a huge flaw because its so clear that we need to learn information.
I dont think we need to learn that we need to learn things right away. I think we need to learn how to learn. Its why we are studying for tests like taking tests for a degree, and why we need to read books like the ones you find in libraries. We need to learn how to learn.
One of the main challenges in learning is the lack of a clear idea of what our beliefs are. This, in part, is due to the fact that we all have beliefs that are different from each other. Because we have beliefs in different schools of thought, we can’t understand our beliefs as they really are, so we can’t see a clear way to apply the beliefs for action.
A lot of people learn how to take an approach to learning based on a certain viewpoint. Others learn how to take an approach based on the way they think others should learn. The point is that the way we learn isn’t always clear. But we need to learn how to learn.
In the past few years, research has shown that one of the most effective ways to learn is through discussion. A lot of new ideas come from discussion. In our own studies of the effectiveness of discussion, we have found that students who participate in discussion on their own, without having to explain their ideas, tend to have fewer misconceptions and more positive attitudes about learning.
So should we learn? I think we should. And there’s a lot to learn for us to realize that. To start, we need to ask ourselves about the “why” of our discussions. Is it because the discussion is stimulating and interesting? Or does it just seem like a lot of thinking and talking about something we haven’t really thought about before? Most of the time, I think that the latter is what it is.
I’m not sure that we can get back to the why of our discussion without a good good reason. As long as it’s stimulating and interesting, we should continue. Maybe our discussion is just a conversation with a friend, or maybe it’s something completely different that we just haven’t thought about before. Either way, we should continue.
